I’m not even ashamed to admit I’ve wanted this book ever since I first saw the cover. I mean how amazing does that look?! Young adult titles almost always have amazing covers, but this one is particularly great. Seemingly a Mulan-esque retelling, this story looks like it has it all: sword-fighting, betrayal, family secrets, and a badass heroine. Most importantly…. “MULAN”. I want this so badly.

Growing up with a dad that’s a war and history buff, it’s only a matter of time before you learn the historical relevance of a “Catch 22”. This book makes the list this week because my curiosity is killing me. I’ve got to see how this book compares to my knowledge of what happened during that chaotic time in American history.

I’ve read a lot of reviews on Whitney G.’s books, but I have never read one myself. This seem’s like a great place to start. From what I’ve heard, it’s typical Whitney G., being that it has well-developed characters, a great story line, and lots of steam.

I have had a hankering for more western style books after reading Stephen King’s The Gunslinger, and this seems to fit that bill. A man out west sets out for adventure, is caught up mistakenly in a gang, and has to join the gang or be shot. He sounds like the Rincewind of the west, which is sure to make for a good story!
